The Hortus Australia assessment
process is based on providing due recognition to individuals.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) means recognising learning that has taken
place outside formal education and training. There are many people in the
workforce with no formal qualifications but who have a wealth of knowledge and
skills gained on the job.
National qualifications are based on a person's individual skills, rather
than courses they have done. Hortus Australia has a long history of
excellence in assessment and more than two thousand people have received their
national qualifications through us.
The Hortus Assessor will work with you to ensure that you agree on what units
of competency you will be assessed against. The Assessor will also help you
determine the type of evidence you need as 'proof' that you have achieved the
requirements of the unit.
For each unit of competency there are six types of evidence
that Hortus will generally look for. These are:
- answers to questions from the Assessor which illustrate your knowledge and
ability
- sighting your workplace and demonstration of skills
- documentary samples and products of your work
- details of your experience
- support from others such as references, awards and testimonials from
industry people, employers and clients
- proof of relevant coursework and professional development such as statements
of attainment, records of results and qualifications and evidence of
professional development programs
You can find details about qualifications and the
competencies covered in the
Qualifications page
